On Census Day 29th April 2001 the resident population of Highfield ward was 5310. Of this population:- 23.5% were under 16 years old and 20.0% were aged 60 and over;
- 48.1% of the population were male and 51.9% were female;
- 4.2% were from a Catholic community background and 94.0% were from a 'Protestant and Other Christian (including Christian related)' community background;
