The population of Waterfoot on Census day (29th April 2001) was 504 people. The demographic characteristics of the people living in Waterfoot were as follows:- 26.1% were aged under 16 years;

- the average age was 31.8 years (NI average age 35.8 years);
- 49.8% of the population were male and 50.2% were female;
- 98.0% were from a Catholic Community Background;
- 2.0% were from a 'Protestant and Other Christian (including Christian related)' Community Background;
- 11.3% were born outside Northern Ireland; and
- 0.0% were from an ethnic group other than white.
